The Brief
Odfjell Drilling is a Norwegian firm with global operating capacity; providing Mobile Offshore Drilling Units, Drilling Technology and Well Services.
Gym Marine were commissioned to create a gym space for a Mobile Platform operating in the North Sea- Deepsea Aberdeen. The equipment roll out was split over three phases in order to facilitate the logistical implications of including many custom built items.
The training area has a large focus on Strength and Olympic Lifting- popular disciplines onboard drilling platforms where work rotations can be lengthy- thus crew members can really sink their teeth into structured and longer term results-driven training programmes.
The Design
Owing to the sizeable nature of these types of installation, very few limitations were placed upon the design team when mocking up the space. Special considerations were made for placement of lifting platforms in order to make best use of recesses and alcoves, allowing for ample centre floor space for a multi station multigym or enhanced selection of cardio equipment.
Two designs were submitted for review with supplementary kit breakdowns and case studies.
